You’re going to love this jalapeno pineapple salsa so much! It’s the perfect combination of spicy jalapenos, juicy pineapple and sweet mangos. The vibrant color and fresh flavors make this the best summer side dish.

Add this new summer staple to your veggie fajitas, vegan enchilada casserole, zucchini corn fritters, or vegetable kabobs. Put this delicious salsa on veggie burgers or vegan tacos. You can also serve this with a simple bowl of tortilla chips for a delicious and festive appetizer. The best pineapple mango salsa is easy to love on all the things.

If you’re looking for a more traditional salsa, make fresh tomato salsa or tomatillo salsa. However, a tropical fruit salsa is one of the great ways to enjoy the summer months, and this delicious pineapple mango salsa is not to be missed!

Pineapple Mango Salsa Ingredients

Tropical fruit salsa ingredients in small bowls: minced jalapenos, diced mango and pineapple, chopped cilantro, a lime and small diced red onions.
  • Pineapple: Fresh pineapple or frozen, either will work in this recipe. However, canned pineapple is a no go because it will be too watery, and the texture isn’t right for salsa. Pineapple helps with digestion, inflammation and immunity. And it’s a colorful addition to this tropical salsa recipe.
  • Mango: Again, use fresh mango or frozen for best results. Mangoes are a great source of magnesium and potassium, antioxidants and Vitamins A + C.
  • Red Onion: Balances the sweet with a bit of savory. Good substitutes would be shallots or green onions (scallions).
  • Jalapeno Pepper: If you don’t include the seeds and membranes, jalapenos add a lot of flavor and not much heat. For a spicy mango salsa try habanero pepper or serrano.
  • Fresh Cilantro: An essential fresh salsa recipe ingredient! If you don’t like cilantro, add fresh parsley, or oregano.
  • Lime juice: A squeeze of citrus helps brighten all the other flavors. The sour of the lime helps counter the spicy of the chili pepper and the sweet from the fruit.

How to make it

A sharp knife, wooden cutting board and a large mixing bowl is all you need to make this great recipe.

Cut pineapple and mango into small dice and add to a large bowl. Dice the red onion, mince the jalapeno and chop the cilantro. Add those to the bowl as well and then squeeze the limes over the fresh ingredients. Mix thoroughly.

Glass bowl with colorful fruit salsa and a large spoon. Salsa is yellow from mango and pineapple, purple onions, green jalapenos and green cilantro.

MEAL PREP AND STORAGE

  • SERVE: Serve at room temperature or chilled. Scoop tacos, veggie burgers, rice bowls, zucchini fritters, or tortilla chips.
  • PREP AHEAD: Fresh pineapple mango salsa will stay good in the fridge for 5 days.
  • STORE: Store in airtight container in the fridge for 5 days.
  • FREEZE: This salsa tastes best fresh. You can use frozen fruit in this recipe, but once it’s defrosted in the salsa, it’s best not to freeze again.

Debra’s Pro Tips

Side view of a small white bowl piled high with pineapple salsa. Jalapeno peppers and fresh cilantro in the foreground.
  • Frozen fruit is easier to cut into small pieces when still frozen.
  • Fresh fruit or frozen are the best choices for this mango-pineapple salsa. Canned fruit doesn’t make good salsa, save it for another recipe.
  • OPTIONAL: add chunks of avocado for creaminess or diced red bell pepper for a bit of crunch.
  • Bring out the savory flavors of the cilantro, onions and peppers with a sprinkle of sea salt and a few grinds of black pepper.
  • Adjust the heat level by changing up the chili peppers. For a more mild salsa, stick with jalapenos and don’t include the membranes or seeds. If you want just a little heat, include a few of the jalapeno pepper seeds. Serrano peppers will produce a spicy pineapple mango salsa.
  • For a more tangy salsa, add another ¼ cup lime juice.
Small white bowl filled with pineapple mango salsa, whole jalapenos, sprigs of fresh cilantro and juiced limes surround the salsa.

Equipment

  • Glass Mixing Bowls with Lids
  • Global 8″ Chef’s Knife
  • Extra Large Bamboo Cutting Board

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pineapple cubes
  • 1 cup mango cubes
  • 1 small red onion small dice
  • 1 small jalapeno pepper minced
  • 2 Tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • 1 lime juiced

Instructions

  • PREP THE FRUIT: If using frozen fruit, check the pieces, cutting any larger chunks into bite sized pieces. If using fresh, peel and chop fresh pineapple and ripe mango into small dice.
  • PREP THE VEGGIES: Peel onion and cut into small dice. For jalapeno pepper, remove membranes and seeds before mincing. If you like a more spicy mango salsa, leave the membranes and a few of the seeds. Wash and dry fresh cilantro and then roughly chop.
  • Place cut fruit into medium bowl. Add onions, jalapenos and cilantro and juice of the lime. Mix well.
  • Store in airtight container in the fridge until ready to serve.

Notes

FROZEN FRUIT: No need to defrost, the frozen fruit is actually easier to cut into small pieces. Leave this tropical fruit salsa out at room temperature for about 30 minutes and fruit will naturally thaw.
OPTIONAL: Add chunks of avocado for a creamier salsa. Diced red pepper will add color and crunch. A sprinkle of sea salt will bring out the savory flavors of the fresh ingredients.
