Chocolate and Cherries blended together for the ultimate smoothie.  Easy to make. Easy to enjoy. Shhh….nobody has to know it’s loaded with greens and superfoods.

Chocolate smoothie with hemp seeds
Chocolate Cherry Smoothie…..so rich, creamy and chocolate-y, you’d never guess how healthy it is.

We are in the midst of a heatwave here in Boston. With real feel temperatures up in the triple digits, it’s hard to stay cool. Chocolate Cherry Smoothie to the rescue!  No need to turn on the oven, no need to use up energy digesting a heavy meal.  You don’t actually need an excuse for a decadent chocolate smoothie, and with this healthy recipe, you can enjoy with no guilt. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack….this one is refreshing and satisfying. Enjoy it any time of day…and any time of year. It’s not too often you find a way to respond to chocolate cravings in such a healthy manner.

Greens, banana, dates, cherries, almond butter
Clean ingredients for a super healthy smoothie.

It’s so easy to sneak a little nutrition into a chocolate cherry smoothie.

Greens:  packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber.

Almond Butter: loaded with protein, healthy fat and fiber….and no carbs.

Hemp Seeds: protein, omega 3s (anti-inflammatory), vitamins, minerals, fiber

Cherries: rich in antioxidants

Cacao Powder:  GOOD MOOD FOOD

Banana:  sweetness without a blood sugar spike

Almond Milk: Low in calories, high in Vitamin E

Dates: Natural sweetener, high in fiber, good for the brain.

Blender full of smoothie ingredients
Simply blend and enjoy!

Making a smoothie couldn’t be any easier. Dump all ingredients into a blender and then blend. That’s it.  Even if you’re on a tight schedule in the morning, there’s time to blend a healthy breakfast. Make a double batch and store the extra in the fridge in a jar with tight fitting lid. You’ll be so  happy to have a chocolate shake in the afternoon for a little pick me up.  I often make a chocolate cherry smoothie before heading to the gym so it’s waiting for me when I get out. It’s the perfect post-workout snack. I love how it rehydrates and refuels me so quickly.

Chocolate Cherry Smoothie
Decadent chocolate flavor in every sip.

When I’m not in the mood for a sweet shake, I  make this lemon zinger smoothie.  BUT, when chocolate is calling, this is the smoothie to satisfy my craving and let me get on with my day.

Chocolate smoothie with hemp seeds
Sprinkle on hemp seeds or YOUR favorite topping.

I hear we are in for another record breaking day of heat……time to break out the blender and the frozen fruit. Smoothies are great nutrition any time of year.  And chocolate, well chocolate is timeless. Remember, if you’re going to indulge, make it healthy!

Chocolate and cherries go so well together, and this smoothie is no exception. Love that it has all the added goodies in there too, but it is so chocolatey no one would have a clue!
