Saute onions in water or olive oil until softened, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle on the salt and pepper.
Add mushrooms and garlic and continue to cook for 10-15 minutes until tender and caramelized.
Pulse eggs and walnuts until crumbly, but not pasty.
Add cooked mushroom mixture to the processor with eggs and walnuts.
Pulse until well combined. For more of a vegetarian Pate, process until smooth.
